Welcome to Palmetto Dental! Whether you have come to us with a dental emergency, if you have been referred by a friend or if you have found us online, our goal is to offer you state-of-the-art dentistry in a modern setting and to accomplish it with a competent and caring staff of dental professionals. We realize that everyone’s situation and dental health needs are different and so we take the time to listen to your needs and concerns and recommend personalized treatment options for you.

For your convenience, we offer a new patient appointment in one of two ways. We will bring you in first to do an initial comprehensive exam and meet the dentist and you can return on a second visit for your cleaning and further treatment. Or we can do your cleaning and comprehensive exam in the same visit. Just let our scheduling coordinator know your preferences.

Either way, our new patient examination always includes an initial interview to understand your concerns and desires, followed by a comprehensive oral examination including annual x-rays, periodontal (gum) disease screenings and oral cancer screenings.

Should your exam uncover the need for further treatment, we will explain your options for treatment using the latest technology and offer a personalized treatment plan. You will be given detailed information so that you can choose the treatment option that is right for you and your budget. We will review any insurance and financial arrangement options with you at that time as well. You achieve the greatest benefit when you have a thorough knowledge of why and how dental problems occur and understand what solutions will best serve your needs. By addressing the causes of any dental problems first, your investment in your smile and your overall health will benefit you well into the future.

We know everyone is busy. For your convenience, you can opt-in to text and email communications to be reminded of your upcoming appointments.

Forms

For your convenience you may download the New Patient Intake Form and the Patient Privacy Form to complete and bring with you to your first appointment, or email it to us ahead of time along with any x-rays, dental records and a copy of your insurance card at bjgrootersdds@gmail.com. Email is not HIPPAA compliant, so if you prefer, you may bring your forms to your appointment with you. What dental services do you offer?

We are a full-service comprehensive dental practice. We offer preventative, restorative and cosmetic dental care services for the entire family. For a full list of our services and explanation of these, click here for more information.

I don’t see my insurance plan listed, does that mean that I cannot be seen by your office?

No. Many insurance plans offer benefits to be seen by out-of-network dental providers. To find out what your insurance covers for out-of-network providers, refer to your policy or contact your insurance directly. As a courtesy, we will file your insurance for you, even if we are not an in-network provider. However, we can only estimate (guess) insurance coverage and cannot guarantee payment from them. We also require upfront payment for any difference in fees. Should your insurance company not reimburse us for their portion, you will be responsible for the full amount. Although it is your responsibility to verify coverage with your insurance company directly, we can help you navigate your insurance and provide various payment options. Give us a call if you have any questions about insurance or payment options we offer and our specialist will be happy to speak with you to help in any way we can.

I am not currently a patient of record, but I would like to be a patient of your practice. Are you accepting new patients and how do I become a patient of record?

Yes, we are accepting new patients. To become a patient of record, you will need to fill out a new patient form here and request a new patient appointment. Or, you may call our office to make an appointment and fill out our new patient form at your first appointment and someone from our office will be in touch to get your appointment scheduled.

Do you accept dental insurance?

Yes, we are in-network providers for several dental insurances. Click here for a list of the current plans we are on. If you don’t see your plan listed, give us a call to discuss your options as we are constantly updating and adding plans.

Do you see children at your practice? When should my child be seen for their first dental appointment?

Yes, we welcome families, including children to our dental practice. The American Dental Association recommends that children should be seen by a dentist when their first tooth erupts or by age 1. However, it is typically unreasonable to expect that children will sit still for a full cleaning at this age, however we can take a look at their teeth and make sure that you are brushing properly at this age and educate you on how to care for your baby’s teeth or any potential problems we see at this age. We often see children around age 2 or 3 for their first cleaning, depending on how you feel your child will handle the visit. Typically, we try to keep these appointments shorter than normal adult cleanings (around 30-45 minutes) as they typically have a shorter attention span and less plaque buildup and periodontal issues at this age. We recommend bringing young children to your regular cleaning appointments if possible (not major dental work appointments) so that they will know what to expect when they do come for their first cleaning appointment.

I am an out-of-towner or not currently a patient of record, but I have a dental emergency. Will you see me?

Yes, tooth pain is no fun, especially when you are on vacation. We see dental emergencies and always strive to get you in to be seen by the doctor within 24 business hours. Give us a call to discuss your dental emergency and let us help you with your toothache or broken tooth. As a policy, we are not able to verify insurance benefits prior to emergency appointments, so payment is due at the time of service and as a courtesy, we will file your insurance after your visit.
